Collection: Prehnite

Prehnite forms in the veins of volcanic rock and also occurs in some granites.

Prized for its minty green colour and glorious inclusions. It was the first gemstone to be named in honor of a person, Colonel Hendrik von Prehn who discovered it in South Africa in the 1700's.

Prehnite was the first gemstone to be described and named from South Africa before the country became known for its diamond deposits.
